The Temptation of Adam, Josh Ritter

Oh, Marie, if you would stay then we could stick pins in the map
Of all the places where you thought that love would be found
But I would only need one pin to show where my heart’s at
In a top secret location three hundred feet under the ground

Today was too busy to post (even from my phone! that is too busy, let me tell you what) the office song of the day, so instead you get this where-is-the-corkscrew Friday night special instead.

You’re welcome.

Bright’s Passage…

So you know how every Josh Ritter song is secretly about Supernatural? Turns out he’s writing a novel. Actually, I knew he was writing a novel, but I didn’t know what it was about. So I just looked it up:

In an interview Feb. 3 at Sundance in Park City, Utah, he said it was “about a kind of sweet normal guy from West Virginia. He goes to the first World War and he comes back and he has an angel. And it’s about him and this angel escaping this wildfire for five days. It’s sort of this short little comedy, you know.”

Well then.

That’s the sad thing with life: there’s people always leavin’ just as other folks arrive.

It’s time for another edition of Every Josh Ritter Song is Secretly About Supernatural. Tonight’s song: Harrisburg. The relevant lyrics:

It’s a long way to Heaven, it’s closer to Harrisburg
And that’s still a long way from the place where we are
And if evil exists its a pair of train tracks
And the devil is a railroad car

Could have stayed somewhere but the train tracks kept going
And it seems like they always left soon
and the wolves that he ran with they moaned low and painful
sang sad misereres to the moon

Some say that man is the root of all evil
Others say God’s a drunkard for pain
Me I believe that the Garden of Eden
Was burned to make way for a train

25 Fandom Things I Loved in 2010 — Josh Ritter

I’ve been a fan of Josh Ritter for about four years, and I’ve been trying to see him in concert for just as long, but I never managed before this year. Then in 2010, I saw him twice, once in NYC and once in Ithaca. Both were great shows to support his fantastic album So Runs the World Away. He’s definitely one of my favorite musicians and he puts on an amazing show.

The Temptation of Adam - Josh Ritter

We could hold each other close and stay up every night

Looking up into the dark like it’s the night sky
And pretend this giant missile is an old oak tree instead
And carve our name in hearts into the warhead
